STEWARDING HAWAIʻI'S ENERGY

Fuel, grown here.

Renewable fuel, pressed from a locally-grown crop, across the Hawaiian islands.

See how it works

NORTH SHORE · OʻAHU

Pono Energy, with our grower partners, raises Camelina sativa on four islands of Hawaiʻi. We press the seeds for oil and refine it into renewable fuel at Par Hawaiʻi's Kapolei plant. Built on Pono Pacific's 25 years of land stewardship, activating working lands rather than replacing them.

THE PROCESS

Energy independence, grown in Hawaiʻi.

  1. 01

    GROW

Camelina matures in approximately 10 weeks. It rotates with food crops and resists pests.

  2. 02

    REFINE

Pressed into oil, then refined at Par Hawaiʻi's Kapolei plant into liquid renewable fuel, including renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel.

  3. 03

    POWER

Starting in 2026, reducing emissions on Hawaiʻi's grid with renewable diesel, and powering Hawaiian and Alaska flights with up to 80% lower lifecycle emissions.

THE FIT

A crop built for Hawaiʻi.

Camelina sativa fits Hawaiʻi. It matures in approximately 10 weeks, rotates with food crops, and resists pests. The seedcake left after pressing feeds livestock. The oil becomes renewable fuel, refined at Par Hawaiʻi's Kapolei plant. A crop that works with the land, not against it.

"Our company has a long-term strategy to reach net zero carbon emissions, and sustainable aviation fuel is essential for us to get there."

Alanna James, Sustainability Innovation Director, Hawaiian & Alaska Airlines

"Camelina represents a rare opportunity for Hawaiʻi to build a true circular-economy model around renewable fuels."

WHO WE ARE

A Pono Pacific company.

For 25 years, our parent company, Pono Pacific, has stewarded Hawaiʻi's land. Restoring native habitat, activating working farms, and protecting watersheds across the islands. Pono Energy is the next chapter. Turning that stewardship into renewable fuel and expanding the agricultural production these islands depend on.

PARTNER WITH US

"A win for the economy. A win for local agriculture. A win for the environment."

Chris Bennett, VP of Sustainable Energy Solutions, Pono Energy

We're looking for growers, landowners, and partners across the islands. Working lands that can do more than one job.
